Jamie came to our house last week and is doing pretty good. She had a few days where she had some separation anxiety but we are working on that and it is getting much better. She is a pretty little girl and hopefully will find her forever home soon. Our last foster, Moses, is still up for adoption but we moved him to a different foster home to make room for Jamie to come in. She is a total sweatheart, great with Bruno and especially likes Maggie and good with the kids too!!! I will keep updates on her progress and if she finds a good home.
This is not greyhound related, but dog related and I thought it was really neat what this guy is doing so wanted to share it with everyone. We have been touched by canine cancer with Caddy losing the battle to osteosarcom and Bruno now dealing with his nerve sheath tumor so I thought this was pretty cool.
Keep him in your thoughts and prayers, this is truly an amazing adventure.
A Man and His Two Dogs Walk from Austin to Boston for Canine Cancer
The kickoff launch date was Sunday, March 16, 2008 from (Walter E.
Long Municipal Park. Austin, TX)
Inspired by the loss of his Great Pyrenees, Malcolm, to osteosarcoma in 2006, Luke Robinson is embarking on a 2,400 mile walk with his two other dogs, Hudson and Murphy. His mission is discovering the cause of cancer and the money raised along the way will finance the first ever nationwide epidemiological canine study managed by the
Animal Cancer Foundation. The implications of this research are even more far reaching. Scientists have discovered that the vast majority of cancers found in pets are the same types affecting humans making dogs an ideal model for study and giving rise to an area of cancer research known as comparative oncology.
Education and community involvement are expected to be a significant part of Robinson’s ten month journey so animal and cancer groups within range of the route are encouraged to join them in joint fundraisers and publicity events. Their walk will take them from
Austin to Texarkana and through Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Newark, New York City, Hartford, Providence, and finally to their destination in Boston, Massachusetts. Animal lovers and supporters are welcome to walk
with them along the way and for a $25 donation, they can have the name of a pet they’ve lost to cancer memorialized in Robinson’s apparel.
We at the 2 Dogs 2000 Miles Foundation, look forward to meeting you, your organizations and communities along throughout this incredible journey!

Well, Maggie finally wore out her old collar and we had to have another one made. Here is a picture of it. We had to get another leopard collar as it matches her tag bag and she also has a winter leopard coat!!!
The only type of collar you should have your greyhound in is a Martingale collar. These are gentle choke collars that will not hurt your greyhound. A martingale collar is a special type of collar that helps a dog stay comfortable while being completely secure on their leash. When adjusted properly the dog is never choked, but the collar stays snug around the dog’s neck (just behind the ears) until the pressure is released. The problem with standard buckle collars is that for the collar to be tight enough that it can’t slip over the ears when pulled, it must be uncomfortably tight all the time. The martingale collar allows the dog to wear a comfortably loose collar that is only tight when it needs to be tight.
I purchased Maggie’s collar at Furry Baby Fashions. I have also purchased collars at 2HoundsDesign. There are many places these collars can be purchased including ebay too and they come in many beautiful and fun designs and colors.

Moses arrived almost a week and a half ago and is adjusting very well. He has been in a couple of foster homes and was not sure when he got here what to do. But over time he has settled down and fitting into the routine. Moses is a sweet 6-year-old boy who is apparently cat friendly. I took him to a meet-n-greet this past weekend at our local pet store and he proceeded to growl at every non-greyhound dog he met. I think he might be a greyhound snob!!! He gets along very well with Maggie and Bruno though and loves the kids too. Hopefully we will get him a permanent home soon!!! Until then he is welcome to stay with us however long he needs.
Well, I have not been around much the past month as I had to have surgery on my foot (nothing major) but have been on crutches and hobbling around trying to recover. Enough about me.
Good news, Missouri was adopted a couple of weeks ago to a great family who are absolutely CRAZY about him. Way to go Missouri!!!! We will miss him but glad he is in a great forever home.

Missouri (brindle) with Maggie (fawn)
Maggie had an incident a few weeks ago. I let her in from outside and she had blood all over her foot. When we cleaned it off we found that she had ripped out her entire toenail on her back left paw. What a mess!!! We had to keep it dry, clean and wrapped for a couple of weeks, which she totally did not like!!! Some people told me that it might or might not grow back in. Well just this week a little toenail popped through the hole that was left there so it looks like she is going to have a toenail again. From what I understand this is very painful when they rip out a whole nail. She was very sore for a while but was such a good patient. When we would go to change her bandage, she would lift her leg up in the air and lay her head down.
And a sad event this week. We had taken in a foster earlier this week, she was an older girl being returned. I took her in to have a checkup and dental so we could get her ready to adopt out and unfortunately she had an adverse reaction to the anesthesia and did not make it through her procedure. We were very saddened by the news and lost a greyt girl. She will be missed very much!!!
I am without a foster for right now but we have a haul of greys coming in from Florida next month so will be helping out another grey very shortly. I will keep you posted.
We are in Ohio and today we are having a blizzard. Bruno and Maggie (even with their long legs) are having a very hard time in the yard. The snow so far is over a foot deep.
That’s all for now from the hounds in Ohio.

Dr. Couto with Bosha, a 27-month cancer survivor
WAY TO GO BOSHA!!!
Heisman’s Shop, each month, dedicates part of their site to fundraising for greyhounds. This month’s featured fundraiser is for Hope for Hounds which raises money for Dr. Couto and his work on osteosarcoma at OSU. So far Hope for Hounds has raised over $30,000
for Dr. Couto.
A special logo has been designed for this February event: Help Greyhounds Lick Cancer. It is available on a number of items including T-shirts, stickers, mugs, etc. at the site. ALL of the money raised from the sale of these items will be given to Dr. Couto.
Check out the link below. It will be available until February 29, so don’t delay:

I know I will be getting something!!!
This is very cool!!! You can go to the following Pedigree website: http://www.dogsrule.com/03Adoption/Million%20Dog%20Mosaic/Default.aspx#empty
Pedigree has a new promotion called the Million Dog Mosaic. You can download a picture of your dog(s) and write a little something about him/her, and it will become part of a mosaic. For every picture downloaded, Pedigree donates $1.00 to their adoption drive. If we all do it, that’s a lot of dollars!!! I just submitted Bruno and Maggie and it only took about 5 minutes of my time and well worth it
P.S.: It has been 48 hours and Maggie and Bruno are in the mosaic. If you would like to see them Bruno is Bruno10 and Maggie is Maggie58.
I just wanted to share our new foster with you. His name is Missouri and he is a sweet boy!!! Here is a picture of him:

Missouri broke his back right leg on the racetrack and has had a plate and screw placed to help repair it but he still walks funny on the leg. He is unable to bend the bottom part and thus limps a lot and will hold his leg up when standing. He is a very sweet and social grey though and LOVES the kids and any kind of activity. He is very playful and will throw his stuffies and pounce on them and bark at them. It is very cute!!! Hopefully we will find a permanent home for this guy soon. He will definitely make a great pet for a nice family. I will keep you updated.
